After ending my internship at Alterna in the summer of 2019, I continued to work with them on many projects. As a part of Alterna’s newest hair care line, the team contacted me to design assets for them that would present their new brand to the professional beauty world. These illustrations were used in products like stickers and enamel pins as well as introduced in a professional event featuring Alterna’s newest line.

I had difficulties capturing ingredients that were not as common, such as botanical caviar. However, these were also the most important ingredients to the brand as they are the core ingredient in the haircare products. These illustrations had to be especially clear and concise.

Finally, the team also wanted me to animate some of these assets for Instagram gifs.

the process

The team wanted to illustrate products that would show off their new line as well as some of the lifestyle items their target customer would use: record players, sunglasses, etc. They first started by giving style and direction ideas as well as subject matter.

I had an in-person meeting where I shared a couple of the ingredients in the style they wanted with the team. After sharing a few ideas we ended up with the

The final results turned out great and the illustrations were used in multiple ways for the Alterna brand.
